Travel Information
Palawan is a long stretch of land located in the Southern Tagalog Region. It has some of the country’s best luxury beach resorts, pristine white sand beaches, dive spots and marine sanctuaries.
What to try
If there is one dish that is characteristic of any province, Palawan’s would definitely be chao long, a Vietnamese noodle soup that was brought to the country by Vietnamese nationals who are married to Filipinos in the province and have adopted the Philippines as their new home. Chao long is basically made of flat rice noodles with an aromatic broth (your choice of beef or pork), served with a garnish of calamansi, sprigs of basil and mint.
Palawan’s coral reefs are considered a favorite among many diving enthusiasts. If you have the time and the knack for adventure, rent a local motorbanca to take you to nearby diving spots where you can experience the diverse and colorful marine life that lay beneath the ocean. Ask your hotel for snorkeling or scuba diving options (and if they offer diving lessons, as well).
Attractions
Aside from the pristine white sand beaches of El Nido, Coron and Puerto Princesa, Palawan is also renowned for its protection of the Tubbataha Reefs. The Tubbataha Reefs Natural Marine Park is one of the most well-managed marine parks in the country. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Subterranean River Nature Park is a popular attraction among those who visit Puerto Princesa. Set against the backdrop of a tropical rainforest, this 8.2 kilometer-long underground river park is also home to a wide variety of wildlife. The park is one of Palawan’s more famous ecotourism spots, where the local government and environmental groups emphasize the preservation of the beauty of these natural resources.
