Quick Getaways Outside Metro Manila
The capital of Manila is a fun city to be in. The people are friendly, the food is great, there are happenings here and there to take part of. But sometimes the city life can lack the big excitement you need for a truly memorable vacation.
You don’t need to ride a plane or book the ritziest of resorts in the whitest of sand beaches though. Some scenic and enjoyable locations can be found just a little way from the city itself, often requiring only a bus or boat ride to get to it. Here are 5 great tour spots to explore that aren’t too far from Metro Manila:
Puerto Galera Take a bus to Batangas port and ride a boat all the way to this fresh slice of beaches, resorts and fun under the sun. With less than 4 hours worth of travel, you’ll be spending most of your time relaxing on the shoreline as the waves brush against your feet, drink in hand. There are so many fun things to check out and do in this local haven: scuba diving, water sports, beach bumming and night partying just to name a few. Puerto Galera is a wonderful gem of a getaway that won’t cost too much to travel to.
Mt Pinatubo Take a hike! On Mt. Pinatubo that is. Tagaytay If you need to be someplace a little cooler in this tropical island, make your way to Tagaytay. Known as one of the “most pleasant cities in Asia”, Tagaytay’s cool climate and fresh air are a stark contrast from the urban city life. Tagytay is the perfect place to picnic out, enjoy nature and do things outside, like zipline or horseback riding. So if you want a chill destination to ride to that’s only less than 2 hours away, this is the place to be.
Corregidor Island Not really into the whole beach scene or mountain scene? Why not check out the history of the amazing Corregidor Island. With its lore deeply rooted in the time of World War II, you can expect lots of interesting stories and facts to be explained by your tour guides. Explore bunkers and old accomodations left over during the war with interactive sound, video and statues to set the mood. With travel time only a little over an hour, you’re sure to have a lot of time to explore the available exhibits to your hearts content.
Pampanga If you love food, you’ll love to visit Pampanga. With its collection of ways to cook savory dishes, sweets and more delectable goodies, your tummy is sure to be filled up before you know it. That’s not surprising since Pampanga does have a title as the “culinary capital of the Philippines”.
